Trimming The Wick - Part 3

Now that you know the importance of trimming the wick, there is a little tid bit that will help you descide who you want to make your candles.  Yep, there is a difference that will help you and add to the safety of your candle use.

One important aspect of ever bruning candle is the trimming of the wick, but what happens when you forget?  Your candle continues to burn.  That can lead to a fire.  We have all seen the evening or morning news about a fire started with a candle.

Well, most people just don’t use candles becasue they fear a candle will cause a fire.  Or that only use them for a short time period.  Your careful use of a candle and trimming the wick will insure your risk of a fire is deminished.  Not only can it be deminished, your use can be inhanced.

One of the things we do is add a little extra to each of our candles by using the wick holders in our votives and tea lights that is taller.  What happens is your candle, a votive or tea light will extinguish itself before it reaches the bottom of the holder.  Two reasons for this addition in our votive and tea lights.

First, your votive holder will not crack from the escessive heat when a votive burns down to the bottom.

Second, the taller wick holder extinguishes the flame leaving a small abount of wax in the bottom of the holder.  The same applies for our Tea Lights.

You may let them burn bacasue your just forgot about them in your busy life, so this added feature will help prevent a fire.  Don’t take this for granted by any means.  Please remember to extingusih all candles when you leave or retire for the night.

The Trimming of the Wick still is your best way to prevent a disaster.  If you leave and have been diligent in trimming your wicks, you will have helped prevented a disaster.

Thinking about the proper use of your candles, like trimming the wick, will bring you more enjoyment in the end.  The aroma of your choice will last longer.  The burning effects will bring the desired effect you desired in the first place.

Trimming The Wick, Part 2

In the first part of this Blog post, we covered the need for trimming the wick.  In this post we will try to show you why.

Take a look at this picture and see if you can tell which votive candle had the wick trimmed - The Right or Left?

 Triming the Wick

If you chose the left, you are right.  Both of these votives have burned down to the end, yet the one on the left still has more wax left.  The one on the right has burned down to the wick holder at the bottom of the votive holder and has left black soot all along the inside of the votive holder.

This was casued by not trimming the wick allowing the wick and wax to incompletely burn which produced the soot.  This soot also was emitted into the room the votive was burning in.

This is why it is so important to trim that wick after two hours.  You get a longer burning candle no matter what type you are burning and you don’t get the soot.  It doesn’t matter what type of wax you are burning with either.  Incomplete burning will emit soot from any type.

When the wick is too tall and not trimmed, this is what you get.

This should help you to understand the importance of taking the time to trim the wick of any candle you are burning.  Alsways remember you have a candle burning and never leave a candle unattended.

We hope this helps.  We are here to serve your candle needs.  We have lots of choices to choose from.  Just check out the Specials page on the web site.  You just might find something you would love to add to your decor.

Until the next entry,  Have a great Day!

Trimming the Wick!

This is so important to keep your candle burning correctly and avoiding those messey mistakes along with the clean up.

If you have ever had one of those accidents you know what we are talking about here.  You leave a candle like a Pillar Candle unattended for a few hours and come back to find wax has spilled out the sides running down and along the candle holder you are using onto the table you had put the candle on.

What a mess to clean up especially if it is wood.  We know.  It has happened to us too.  You think you have it in your mind to check on that candle and you don’t!

Well a little trick is to set some alarm to go off after two or three hours.  Two is best.  That will remind you that you have a candle burning.  What you do next is soooooo important.

Yep, it is trim the wick after you have extinguished the candle and let it cool down.  You trim the wick to 1/4 inch from the top of the wax and relight it.  Now you will have a better burning candle for about two hours, so set the timer again to remind you to trim the wick.

This will insure you a cleaner burning candle no matter what type you are using.  If it is a scented candle you will get more scent longer by using the simple method.

We are producing a ebook with video that will show you just how to do this.  This will make your candles even more enjoyable and last longer.

Also remember to reform the candle when it is cooling down.  Use your hands to reform the candle which will help to keep it burning longer and giving your the scent you desire in the room longer.

We hope this helps you.  We know it will make the mess part of using a candle go away.  Any comments will be here to be viewed by others, so let them fly.  Tell us what you think about this simple suggestion for trimming your wick.

Until next time, we are here to be your candle maker!

Candle Safety Is a Must!

December 19th, 2007

Candles are a wonderful addition to create a mood, relax or even to use in creating romatheripy.  Still there are several things to consider when using a lighted candle.

Never leave a candle unattended.  So many fires have been started by leaving a candle unattended.  This should be your first rule when using a candle.  Remember to extinguish it when you leave it, or just take it with you!!

If you want to get the most from your candle, remember to let it burn correctly.  This means you should extinguish the candle when the wick begins to form into a mushroom shape.  This is when it begins to produce black smoke, not desirable at all.  This is when you should trip the wick back to 1/4 inch. and relight it.  If you have a scented candle, the scent will just fill the area all over again.

Now you got to remember where you put your lit candle.  You don’t want it next to anything that will burn.  You don’t want it where the Kids or Pets can knock it over.

Simple things that make it all better.

Enjoy your candles.

Again this blog is sponcered by www.bgscandles.com so enjoy your candle experience every day or whenever you choose.  We are here to help keep you safe.  An alternatinate to buring a candle is using a Burner.  They melt the wax, no matter what type, and let the scant enter the area where you place the burner.  To see what they look like, check out the web page!
