Candle SAFETY TIPS
WARNING:
UNATTENDED
CANDLES CAN CAUSE A FIRE IN YOUR HOME!
NEVER LEAVE
A CANDLE UNATTENDED AT ANY TIME.
NEVER ALLOW
CHILDREN TO USE CANDLES UNSUPERVISED.
Proper care of you candles will
provide you with the setting and created mood you desire by the
scent you choose, and the light given forth from your candles.
To insure you have a rewarding experience with your candles, the
following are some safety guidelines you should adhere to for
your own safety.
1. Always have you candle
in or on a non-flammable container. Even though a
lead crystal glass holder gives sparkle to your candles, beware
of the over extended use of lead crystal. It can overheat,
splitting the holder allowing the wax to flow onto flammable
material and can cause a fire in your home.
2. Always trim your wick to
1/4 inch after several hours of burning your candle. This
safety feature allows your candle to burn properly without the
smoke that often is a determent to the desired effect.
Secondly this allows the wax to cool for a short time allowing
your candle to last longer giving you the scent you desire.
Trimming your wick decreases the
amount of flame and melting of wax in your candle. You
candle will retain its shape and proper texture longer when you
trim the wick after 2 to 4 hours of burning. This also
decreases the chances of the wax running out of your candle and
down the side. Proper wick trimming will keep your candle
safe.
3. Pets and Children are
seldom conscious of the burning candles you have. Keep
them out of reach and well away from areas that they have access
to. It is very important to keep them away from the areas
you are using when you burn your candles. Areas like
windows surrounded by curtains are areas where pets often jump
up on or children unintentionally spill a candle. The
curtains near by may be close enough for the flame from your
candle to ignite them.
Safety is very important when
using your candles. Insure you are using proper care when
you light them and burn them to insure you do not have them in a
hazardous position. Not only are the surroundings subject
to burning, you are as well. The flame from a candle can
give you 2nd degree burns.
Use care when extinguishing your
candles to insure you are not burnt. Blowing candles out
is not the best method. Using the proper tool to
extinguish your candle is important to consider. Any
method you have available to extinguish you candle should be
utilized instead of blowing a candle out. Use a
non-flammable container to extinguish your candles like a glass
or jar that will fit over the top of your candle and eliminate
the oxygen thus putting the flame out.
Often blowing out a candle
results in the re-igniting of the candle. Take the
necessary precautions to insure the flame is out. Assuming
you blew your candles out can be the cause of a fire in your
home, no one wants. Take those steps to insure the candle
is extinguished and will not ignite again before you leave it
unattended.
Tips:
Did you know that if you put your
candle in the refrigerator for several hours prior to burning,
it will be less likely to drip.
If you keep it out of the air
currents in your home it will let your candle burn straight
reducing the possibility of dripping.
When your candle wick burns out
and you have part of your candle left over, don't throw it away.
Put it in your burner and let the aroma of the scent continue to
fill your room. This works best with our pillar and ball
candles.
